Sporting Jobs, a global leader in sports recruitment, is proud to announce its commitment to becoming a net zero organisation.

Recognising the growing impact of climate change on sport, Sporting Jobs is reducing emissions and educating its workforce on sustainable practices, positioning itself as a key player in sustainably focused recruitment for the sports industry.

According to the BASIS Game Changer II report, climate change is already disrupting sports. Over the past 12 months, more than 120,000 grassroots football matches were cancelled due to extreme weather. In cricket, over 132,000 County Championship overs have been last to rain in the past 10 seasons, while 73% of golf-professionals surveyed by the R&A view flooding and rain events as major threats to the sport. With such figures highlighting the urgency of climate action, Sporting Jobs is taking proactive steps to reduce its environmental impact.

Throughout 2024, Sporting Jobs partnered with sport and sustainability experts, Final Third, to help educate its global team and take meaningful strides toward reducing its environmental impact. This collaboration has not only enhanced internal practices but has also positioned the company to authentically support sports organisations in recruiting for sustainability-related roles.

“We’re incredibly proud to have completed out Carbon Literacy training and to focus on reducing our impact as an organisation,” said Harry Lynch, Recruitment Director of Sporting Jobs. “The training and support from Final Third have been transformative, helping us understand the full scale of climate change’s impact on sport. We are now uniquely equipped to support sports organisations in recruiting talent for key sustainability roles.”

As part of this sustainability journey, all Sporting Jobs employees have completed training workshops and received Carbon Literacy certification. The company has relocated its global headquarters to an energy-efficient, city centre office, implemented a Sustainable Travel Policy that encourages staff to use public transport, and calculated its baseline emissions. Sporting Jobs has already offset its carbon footprint through Ecologi’s offsetting schemes while it continues working on further emissions reductions.

Richard Holmes, Founder and Director of Final Third, praised Sporting Jobs’ dedication, “It is refreshing to see an organisation take such a proactive and enthusiastic approach to sustainability. Sporting Jobs has committed to both learning and changing, ensuring their practices are authentic before supporting others in this critical area.”

As the sports industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, Sporting Jobs is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in helping organisations recruit the leaders who will drive these essential changes.
